While the GeForce GTX 480 fared very well in our time demo benchmark, beating the Radeon HD 5870 convincingly, our own FRAPS benchmark tells a much different story. Here we found that the GeForce GTX 480 was still faster than the Radeon HD 5870 but by a much smaller margin. The minimum frame rate gap was only of 3fps. Later on we observed this radical change came from the maxed-out ‘Enthusiast’ setting we used for this article, compared to the ‘High’ setting used previously. On the latter GeForce boards tend to perform better than the Radeon boards. The Radeon HD 5850 and GeForce GTX 470 boards delivered similar results against each other, though the Radeon HD 5850 had better average results.
